Atlas Defense
Biking with Baddies Violence Prevention Training Part 3.
Location: Logan Park NE Minneapolis
Time: 10am - 11:30am
Situational Awareness for Cyclists
This specialized class is an adaptation of Atlas flagship verbal de-escalation training, designed specifically for cyclist. Drawing from concerns raised in Conversations About Safety, this session provides guidance, hands-on practice, and scenario-based training to help participants navigate and respond to potentially dangerous situations while riding.
Held at Logan Park in Northeast Minneapolis, the class begins with introductions and a focused instructional period before breaking into two groups. Each group will engage in realistic, staged scenarios, created by trained actors, to practice situational awareness, crisis response, and de-escalation techniques while on a bike. Depending on the needs and interests of participants, these scenarios may include:
Encountering individuals experiencing a mental health crisis
Responding to an overdose situation
Navigating street harassment or aggressive behavior
Knowing when and how to call for help
Practicing calm, assertive communication in escalating situations
Our actors and facilitators will guide participants through these experiences and provide constructive feedback during a Q&A and debriefing session at the end.
This is the final session in our three-part violence prevention and safety series for women, reinforcing awareness, preparedness, and confidence in handling real-world situations. Whether you’re commuting daily, riding recreationally, or simply want to feel more in control of your surroundings, this class offers essential skills for staying safe and empowered on your bike.
